Learn the basics of mushroom cultivation for Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms on logs. We will cover log selection, timing, spore selection, inoculation methods, care of the logs, and proper harvesting methods. All this will be covered while the group actually performs the task to inoculate their own logs. In the afternoon, we will cover growing Wine cap mushrooms on wood chips.
It is more important than ever to work towards having a resilient food system and to be producing fresh food at home. This course will go over what mushrooms are, ways in which mushrooms are cultivated, medicinal properties of certain mushrooms, and how we can relate to them to provide benefit for us, our community, and the land we grow on. No special lab experience required as we will go over various techniques learning how to cultivate and grow mushrooms without any special equipment.
Class includes a farm to table lunch after the morning session.
