SUMMARY:Book Club Dinner: Wild Dark Shore : April 16th\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:We are going to depart from our food-oriented books and delve into some rich storytelling . We invite you to gather for an evening devoted to Wild Dark Shore — a story that moves like weather along a rugged coast\, where memory\, landscape\, and the hidden tides of the heart meet. \nTogether we will sit with the book’s questions and currents: the pull of wild places\, the quiet forces that shape our lives\, and the stories that surface when we listen closely. \nThere will be conversation\, excellent food\, and the simple pleasure of thinking together. Bring your copy of Wild Dark Shore\, a passage that lingered with you\, and your own reflections. \nLet us gather for a night at the edge of the known world\, where good books open deeper waters.   Chef Russell will cook a family-style farm-to-table dinner to accompany our dinner discussion. Our farm manager\, Marco Lam\, is partnering once again with Danielle Skov\, of Off the Beaten Path bookstore\, to host a lively discussion.  Please order your book in advance and read it.   If you don't finish it\, you can can still join us for dinner without being embarrassed!

SUMMARY:Tea and Meditation Retreat: July 11-13\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:To fill our souls with a powerful Tea and listen to the aspen leaves flittering in the breeze. To feel that breeze softly flow around us and through us. To feel the mind expanding beyond our body\, into the trees\, and then beyond them… \nTo take this expansive stillness and hold it with the no-mind of Zazen such that it fuses\, at least for a time\, with our very being.  \nTo purify\, settle\, and see. \nThe sages have always known that nothing elevates a Tea session more than a transcendental natural setting. Through Tea we touch Nature. In the tranquility cultivated through harmony\, reverence\, and purity we find the divine. This the the Way of Tea. \nWhether you wish to begin a tea practice or deepen the one you have\, this weekend will be an exquisite and profound journey.  \n \nThis retreat brings two perennial traditions together to deepen one's practice\, whether a novice or someone who has long trod the path. There is a saying from our tea teacher\, “Zen and Tea are one flavor”. The mindfulness and insight of zen practice both inform and clarify our pouring of tea.  The combination of tea ceremony and zen in a beautiful natural setting is powerful medicine. \nWe will drink tea from our personal collections and teach about the provenance of living teas. \nWe are grateful to be hosting my favorite chajin to pour tea with us as a community.  This is an opportunity to join with skilled practitioners who are humbly learning and sharing their passion for the Way of Tea. Together\, we will drink tea with a beginner’s mind and receive with humility and grace the wisdom of the leaf. There is a legend of the Emperor Shen Nong\, who while sitting in nature had the leaves of a tea plant fall into a bowl of hot water. In many ways\, we still quietly follow in his footsteps. \n*Price includes farm-to-table\, gourmet meals cooked by an on-site chef\, and on-site camping with access to flush toilets and a shower.  Fruit and baked goods are provided in the morning. \n  \nFriday 5-8 pm\, Saturday 9-8 pm\, Sunday 9-5 pm. \n \n*Friday**\n5:00 - 6:15 Bowl Tea Ceremony\n6:30 - 7:30 Dinner at Elkstone Farm\n8:00 - 9:00 Evening Meditation\n9:00 Close for the night\n\n**Saturday**\n6:00 - 7:00 Meditation\n7:00 - 8:00 Rest / Shower\n8:00 - 9:00 Breakfast\n9:00 - 10:30 Sidehandle Tea Ceremony\n10:30 - 12:00 Discussion on a Life of Tea\n12:00 - 1:00 Lunch\n1:00 - 2:30 Rest period / Walking / Journaling\n2:30 - 4:00 Silent Tea Ceremony\n4:30 - 5:30 Meditation\n5:30 - 6:30 Rest Period\n6:30 - 7:30 Dinner\n8:00 - 9:00 Meditation\n9:00 Close for the night\n\n**Sunday**\n6:00 - 7:00 Meditation\n7:00 - 8:00 Rest / Shower\n8:00 - 9:00 Breakfast\n9:00 - 10:30 Boiled Tea Ceremony\n10:30 - 12:00 Discussion on a Life of Tea\n12:00 - 1:00 Lunch\n1:00 - 2:30 Rest Period / Walking / Journaling\n\n2:30 - 4:00 Silent Tea Ceremony\n4:30 - 5:30 Meditation\n5:30 - 6:30 Rest Period\n\n6:00 - 7:00 Closing Circle for Weekend\n  \nYour facilitators: \n \nBu Nan Brown is a Zen priest\, somatic guide\, and steward of the contemplative tea path. Rooted in nearly two decades of Buddhist study and practice\, his offerings weave together stillness\, presence\, and the subtle art of heart-centered service. \nTrained in the Rinzai Zen tradition and deeply influenced by the teachings of Ken Wilber\, Jun Po Roshi\, Alan Wallace\, and the yogic lineages of India\, Bu Nan brings a devotional care to each bowl of tea. His tea ceremonies are not performances—they are invitations into the sacred ordinary\, where the nervous system softens\, the heart opens\, and something ancient is remembered. \nIn addition to guiding tea practice\, Bu Nan is the founder of the Attachment Repair Collective\, where he offers coaching and community to those on the path of relational healing. His work bridges the somatic\, the spiritual\, and the relational—reminding us that beauty\, belonging\, and depth are always close at hand. \n\nMarco Chung-Shu Lam is a curious and compassionate human being who has a passion for health\, the environment and the ability of humans to create a better world. He has practiced Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for over 25 years and is lauded to have a unique style of practice that accelerates his clients breakthroughs in both physical and cognitive arenas. Practicing internal martial arts for over 30 years has deeply informed his relationship with tea. His zen teacher\, Jun Po Roshi\, bestowed the name Yakuso to him\, which means the healing source in Japanese. Marco’s style of tea pouring centers around family and community. His main teacher of tea was his grandmother\, An Chin Lin\, who believed that serving tea was a way to share your love with other people. Marco believes the same. Along with his wife\, Jamie\, he is the steward and farm manager of Elkstone Farm. \n \nSerena Jetelina is a Yoga Movement Therapist and Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist whose work centers around the healing power of presence\, ritual\, and embodied awareness. Rooted in the contemplative traditions of Sri Vidya Tantra\, yoga\, and meditation\, her sessions often unfold around the quiet simplicity of tea—used as both anchor and invitation into deeper listening. \nThrough the art of tea ceremony and personalized therapeutic practices\, Serena creates spacious\, grounded environments where individuals can reconnect with themselves and the subtle wisdom of the body. Her approach blends movement\, breath\, and stillness\, offering a gentle path toward healing\, self-trust\, and transformation. \nIn addition to her therapeutic offerings\, Serena serves as Head of Yoga International\, where she brings over two decades of business experience in wellness leadership\, education\, and design. \nWhether in ceremony or strategy\, Serena’s work is a devotion to the sacred in everyday life.

SUMMARY:Tea Ceremony in the Greenhouse with Marco Chung-Shu Lam\, May 28th\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a tea ceremony in our beautiful four season greenhouse. Drink tea in a grove of citrus and fig trees\, flowers and herbs\, while the cold weather is brewing outside. We will be sharing traditional bowl tea in the Cha Dao style of tea ceremony. Marco will share a bit about tea practice and there will be time after to relax in the greenhouse. \nCha Dao\, “The Way of Tea” is a practice that comes from the depth of Chinese culture and from the Taoist practices of relating to nature as medicine. The ancient Taoists and sages use tea as both plant medicine and as a path to cultivate awareness and to deepen one's mediation practice. Tea is one of the most accessible plant teachers and as a gentle spirit\, it can guide you into a more powerful and centered relationship with nature. \nLed by Marco Chung-Shu Lam\, who is one of our farm managers and also runs an integrative medicine clinic in Boulder. He is a skilled practitioner of internal martial arts\, acupuncture and herbalism who has practiced in Colorado for over twenty years. He has a deep love of tea and will be sharing from his personal collection of both aged shou pu-erhs and an exquisite oolong in this session.

SUMMARY:Tea Ceremony in the Greenhouse with Marco Chung-Shu Lam\, March 20th\, 2025

SUMMARY:Book Club Dinner: The Serviceberry: March 6th\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:This is the first of our more conversational family-style dinners at the farm.    We are excited to present an evening that nourishes us with good food from the farm while engaging in a deeper community experience.  Our farm manager\, Marco Lam\, will be facilitating the discussion. \nRobin Kimmerer's new book\, The Serviceberry\, is a bold and inspiring vision for how to orient our lives around gratitude\, reciprocity\, and community\, based on the lessons of the natural world. It's about indigenous wisdom\, how we want to live\, what we value\, how we want to be in relation\, and whether we can imagine and cultivate a system that nurtures mutual well-being and flourishing. \nThe book is an easy\, short read and the 128 pages can easily be read in the evening.  Please read the book beforehand and come prepared to be in dialogue about the book with your neighbors.   Several of us on the farm are reading the book and attending. \nChef Russell will make a family-style dinner which will be followed by a serviceberry dessert!
